An encoder is a process used to change a signal (such as a bitstream) or data into a code. The code may serve any of a number of purposes such as compressing information for transmission or storage, encrypting or adding redundancies to the input code, or translating from one code to another. This is usually done by means of a programmed algorithm. As Leawo Video Converter is a program used to convert videos between formats, that is convert AVI to MOV or MOV to AVI, or convert AVI to WMV, or convert MOV to VOB, or converter VOB to MP4, etc. Actually this conversion process is a process of decoding and encoding! The converter receives the input source videos firstly, and then it decodes the source file, process it into the standard of the target video format, and then encode the video into the target video format.
